First Bonehead Design Award

This months award goes to Chrysler. Take a look at the photos below. The top photo shows the deployed passenger air bag. Notice that flap above the air bag? Well guess what? That's the dashboard!

This photo shows the dashboard removed from the vehicle. The part is the complete instrument panel.

Many vehicle manufacturers have designed the air bags so that when they deploy, just the air bag would need to be replaced. In other words, the top surface of the air bag matched the appearance of the dash.

On this Chrysler model, the entire dashboard must be replaced. With labor, this adds approximately $500.00 to the cost of repairs. Bad, expensive design...
