Case Number Two

department was needed to put out the fire!

BMW Case

Here's the undercarriage! Hmmmm...interesting!

Well here we go. See if you can figure out what happened. Here are the facts as I was faced with. The vehicle is a 1990 BMW 535i. The vehicle was in very good condition with 110,000 miles on it. There was evidence of a black oily substance on the left side of the engine. A fire had started in the area of the tail section of the transmission. Resulting fire damage was found to the linkage and transmission wire harness. The catalytic converter also was scorched in this area. The fire had extended up the firewall damaging some of the wiring and a heater hose. Keep in mind the transmission was not working. The transmission fluid was checked and found to be 50% low. Also the fluid was dark and burnt smelling.

OK you appraiser "wanna bees" ...what happened?
