Your first clue is that the fire
department was needed to put out the fire!

Hmmmm...interesting!
Well here we go. See if you can figure out
what happened. Here are the facts as I was faced with. The vehicle is a 1990 BMW 535i. The
vehicle was in very good condition with 110,000 miles on it. There was evidence of a black
oily substance on the left side of the engine. A fire had started in the area of the tail
section of the transmission. Resulting fire damage was found to the linkage and
transmission wire harness. The catalytic converter also was scorched in this area. The
fire had extended up the firewall damaging some of the wiring and a heater hose. Keep in
mind the transmission was not working. The transmission fluid was checked and found to be
50% low. Also the fluid was dark and burnt smelling.
